The tube knot allows you to connect large diameter nylon lines without the aid of crimps... and it is one of the strongest knots ever. Its execution is often demonstrated using a small tube (hence the name of the knot), but NO ONE HAS EVER SHOWN YOU HOW TO TIE THIS KNOT WITHOUT THE TUBE!
The advantages of this knot are:
- its very high breaking strength
- the possibility of not using aluminum crimps even for large diameters of nylon
- its easy execution without the aid of any tools (pliers, crimps, tubes), except for scissors
In this article, we show you how to rig one of our konas, using the tube knot WITHOUT A TUBE to connect the shock leader to the rig:
1) Cut the nylon diagonally with sharp scissors, to create a point
2) Securely block the hook of the rig, attaching it to anything (a reel eyelet, a rod guide, a cleat, etc.)
3) Pass the nylon through the kona and the eyelet of the rig

4) Double the line and pass it around your index finger, holding it tight
5) Make coils starting from the index finger towards the eyelet, always keeping tension on the hook. The coils must be tight!
6) Remove your index finger from the loop, keeping the coils still with the thumb and index finger of your other hand
7) Pass the nylon (the point previously created will help us) through all the coils and the loop that was created around the index finger
8) Wet the knot slightly with water and tighten!
As you can see, we have not inserted any protection between the nylon and the eyelet... and the reason is simple:
It is important to specify that this knot, being a slip knot, ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT REQUIRE THE USE OF THIMBLES or rubber tubes, which could prevent the knot from tightening correctly, or could bend under strong tension from a large fish! They are often inserted, but this is a common big mistake!
